Mangaluru — In a move to boost cancer care services, the central government has sanctioned a Cancer Day Care Centre (DCCC) at Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru, with a funding of ₹1.49 crore, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta announced.

According to his press release, the initiative falls under the 2025–26 Union Budget’s plan to set up cancer day care centres in all district hospitals nationwide over the next three years.

In the first phase, 200 such centres are being established. Based on data from the National Cancer Registry and state government recommendations, 16 districts in Karnataka — including Dakshina Kannada — have been shortlisted.

The upcoming centre at Wenlock Hospital will provide key services such as diagnostics, chemotherapy, outpatient care, and cancer awareness and prevention programmes. The goal is to deliver quality treatment locally and ease the pressure on larger, tertiary hospitals.
