12,000 Beneficiaries in Mysuru to Receive Maturity Amount under Bhagyalakshmi Scheme

12,000 Beneficiaries In Mysuru To Receive Maturity Amount Under Bhagyalakshmi Scheme

This year, approximately 12,000 beneficiaries from Mysuru district will receive the maturity amount of Rs 32,351 under the state government’s Bhagyalakshmi scheme. The funds have been released for a total of 2.36 lakh beneficiaries across Karnataka who registered for the scheme in April 2006. Introduced to encourage the birth of girl children in BPL families, the scheme aims to combat issues like child labour, female foeticide, child marriage, and trafficking.

In Mysuru district, the beneficiaries are spread across various taluks. T Narasipura has 1,547 beneficiaries, Periyapatna has 929, Nanjangud has 1,135, Mysuru city has 1,766, and Mysuru rural has 1,533. Other taluks include K R Nagar (1,198), Biligere (1,075), HD Kote (1,421), and Hunsur (1,423).

Originally launched in 2006, the scheme was renamed Sukanaya Samruddhi Yojana in 2020-21, and the maturity amount was revised from Rs 32,351 to Rs 1 lakh. From 2026-27 onwards, beneficiaries will receive the increased amount.

To be eligible for the scheme, BPL families with two girl children can register by contacting local anganwadi workers or ASHA workers, submitting necessary documents such as BPL cards, Aadhar numbers, and vaccination records. Upon completion of the registration, the amount is deposited in the name of the girl child, which she can claim once she turns 18.

However, some beneficiaries have raised concerns about the strict documentation requirements. Mahadevamma, a beneficiary from T Narasipura, suggested that the government ease the rules regarding documents like sterilisation and vaccination cards, as many recipients face difficulty in securing or maintaining these records.
