Mysuru: In connection with the State requesting for funds to combat the drought in Karnataka, The Central Drought Panel comprising of the Chief Engineer of Central Water Commission P K Saksena, Under Secretary of Water Resource Department A K Shrivastava accompanied by DC C Shikha, officials from Cauvery Development Authority and Kabini Development Authority, officials from Lal Bagh, Bengaluru and Curzon Park came to Mysuru after inspecting the drought situation in Ramagaram and Mandya. Out of seven taluks in Mysuru District five taluks are drought hit and the state government already spent 12 crore as relief operations.
In Mysuru, they met with other officials, studied the monsoon pattern from March 2015 and September 2015. The team pointed out that this year farmers have opted to cultivate much less area as compared to last year. Last year farmers had cultivated 3 lakh hectares but this year only 1.75 lakh hectares.
After completing the assessing Mysuru District team will be heading towards Hassan district.
