Mysuru: Amidst the ongoing severe drought in Mysuru, District in-charge Secretary Selvakumar has directed officials to engage in field visits and foster grassroots-level collaboration. This instruction was issued during his leadership of the monthly meeting of the Karnataka Development Program (KDP) on Tuesday.

Selvakumar stressed the importance of interdepartmental cooperation to ensure smooth development work and urged officials to expedite the tendering process for drinking water supplies to ensure a continuous, clean water supply. DC Dr. KV Rajendra emphasized the need to complete ongoing projects in rain-affected areas in the fiscal year 2019-20 and take proactive measures to prevent water and fodder shortages while informing the public about available resources.

Selvakumar also encouraged officials to create employment opportunities for rural populations through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in rural development projects. Effective water resource management, especially in areas served by the Cauvery Kabini reservoir, was discussed to prevent water supply issues.

Regarding the Grilahakshmi scheme, Selvakumar noted that 70% of beneficiaries have received transfers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). He acknowledged E-KYC challenges faced by some beneficiaries and assured that relevant information had been communicated to officials for resolution.

Officials reported issues related to missing phone numbers among registered beneficiaries that hindered DBT fund transfers. They also mentioned the distribution of ration under the Annabhagya Yojana in all district taluks and the ongoing program to provide cash instead of ration, pending September’s direct cash transfers.

Selvakumar called for efforts to distribute BPL cards, Aadhaar cards, and job cards to tribal communities and directed officials to promote awareness about Gram One Centers’ services and bank account openings. The meeting was attended by GP CEO KM Gayatri, Mysore Urban Development Authority Commissioner Dinesh Kumar, and Mysore Metropolitan Corporation Commissioner Ashad ur Rehman Sharif.
