Mysuru: Four people including a doctor were arrested by police after they busted a child trafficking racket. The gang had reportedly sold more than 18 children in the last three months.
Dr Usha, who was rendering service on temporary basis at a private hospital in Mandi Mohalla, Mysuru is suspected to be the kingpin. Most of the children she targeted were involved in begging in Nanjangud.
Usha used to target children of beggars and poor and used to convince the parents to sell their children for money. If the parents refused to sell the children, she used to wait for the right opportunity. When the children were sent for begging, the gang used to kidnap them. The children were lured by sweets, food and were made to sit inside a car and kidnapped.
According to police sources, the children were sold to rich people or to those from foreign countries for hefty money.
The police stumbled on the culprits after they were hunting for the miscreants who were involved in a kidnap case three months ago. The police are currently interrogating the accused to find the whereabouts of the kidnapped children and accomplices.
