Mysuru: Hundreds of students take part in a campaign against Child Sexual Abuse and formed a human chain near the University of Mysore centenary clock tower at Manasa Gangotri here on Saturday.
The event was organised by Young Indians (YI), Mysuru in association with the district administration and Department of Public instructions. Speaking after launching the campaign by holding hands of children and other participants, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said “If India has to be a developed nation by 2030, the children have a pivotal role to play. To meet the future challenges we want our children to be fit and healthy. Looking at the recent attacks on children, in most of the cases, it is being done by people close to them including their friends and relatives. Though the police are taking stringent action against the accused these sort of incidents keep happening. Hence it is not only the responsibility of police but also of the society at large including NGOs. If any child is abused, they can immediately call child helpline 1098”.
The objective of Project Masoom is to create awareness on child sexual abuse and also about the various forms of abuse including physical, mental and visual. YI is creating awareness about child abuse and has already visited 14 schools. In days to come, they have planned to visit more than 30 schools across the district.
