Debts, crop loss lead farmer to suicide

Somwarpet: A debt-ridden farmer ended his life here in Talthareshettalli village on November 23.
K D Erapa (52) is the deceased. On Tuesday, Erappa had consumed poison at around 7pm and was immediately taken to the government hospital nearby. However, he breathed his last at 9 pm. The last rites were performed on Wednesday at his native place.

Erappa had borrowed over Rs 3 Lakh loan from Somwarpet co-operative societies and self-help groups in the name of his wife and himself. Other than debts, he was also worried about crop loss.

His wife Indira has filed a complaint at Somwarpet police station and further investigation is on. Erappa is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
