Mandya: The BJP, which doesn’t have any elected directors in the Mandya District Central Co-operative Bank, was able to win the president’s post with the support of the JD(S).
Meanwhile, a JD(S) director won the post of vice-president. As the Congress boycotted the election, both the president and vice-president were selected unanimously.
Among the 12 members of the bank’s board of directors, the Congress has eight members and rest are JD(S) members. However, a Congress member switched to the JD(S) while the cooperative department suspended the voting powers of another member, bringing the Congress’ effective strength to six. Three nominated members from the government, along with the support from the JD(S), were all it took for the BJP to win the election.
Fearing humiliation, the Congress didn’t field any candidate for the post and as a result, C P Umesh, a nominated director and BJP leader became the president, while JD(S) leader H K Ashok became vice-president.
