Mandya: A farmer was crushed under the wheels of a bullock cart during a race in the Chikka village here on Sunday January 8. A 12-year-old boy was injured in the incident as well.
The deceased has been identified as farmer leader Nagaraju (55) from Keelara village. According to sources, the deceased was actively involved in the farmers’ association.
A 12-year-old Hulivana village boy who was severely injured has been admitted to the city’s District hospital.
According to sources, the incident happened on the second day of the eighth annual interstate double bullock cart race, which was held in the village of Chikka Mandya and was organised by Sri Hallikeswara Boreshwara and Rythumitra Balaga. A huge crowd had arrived to witness the races.
A video of the incident had gone viral on social media. The video clip shows one of the bullock carts competing in the race moving toward the audience as the crowd runs to avoid being hit.
