Mandya: Actress Sumalata Ambareesh, wife of former state and Union minister and “Rebel Star” late M H Ambareesh, recently announced that she is ready to plunge into electoral politics. “I am ready to contest from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general election on the Congress’ ticket,” she announced.
“Ambareesh was identified with the Congress and I will continue with the same party. I am ready to contest in the election,” she said.
She met former chief minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G Parameshwar at the KPCC office on Queen’s Road on Thursday evening and expressed her desire.
“I am expecting the people’s support,” she said.
A senior Congress leader said that Sumalata’s announcement is expected to create more troubles for the JDS-Congress sharing discussion. “Presently, Mandya is represented by a JDS MP. The party is not ready to give up the seat. But Sumalata’s announcement will create a lot of problems as Ambareesh fans will start pressurising the Congress leaders to demand for the constituency,” he told Newskarnataka.
Mandya is considered as a strong Vokkaliga belt and the BJP does not have any strong presence here. The JDS and Congress, however, are arch-rivals here.
