Mysuru: Banana, coconut plants destroyed in rains

Mysuru: A large number of banana and coconut trees have been uprooted in Gaddige Area of Bilikere Hobli in Hunasur Taluk of the District due to heavy rains accompanied by the first storm of the year. Many huts have been damaged and lakhs of rupees have been lost.

Nendra and cardamom banana saplings, which had grown on hundreds of acres of land, were uprooted due to thunderstorms, while hundreds of coconut trees were uprooted. The trees in the field have fallen to the ground. Dozens of sheds on ginger farms have been blown away by the storm.

Several farmers from Sanjeev Nagar near Gaddige, including Hanumanthapura, Chamalli Hundi and Sharif Colony in Fort Taluk on the border, where banana and coconut trees had grown on more than 100 farmers’ lands fell down, causing havoc.
