Mysuru: With the Election Commission of India (ECI) announcing the schedule for the Assembly elections, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the District and everyone should co-operate in free and fair elections. Action will be taken as per the Representation of the People Act if the Model Code of Conduct is violated, said Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said, “Necessary arrangements have been made for a fair and peaceful election in the District. In view of the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, no new government programmes, announcements and other Government programmes should be held in the district, including the City,” and added that the Government cars used by various corporations, board chairpersons and elected representatives should be handed over to the District Administration.
Former international Cricketer Javagal Srinath has been appointed as the election ambassador in the District with a target of 90 per cent voter turnout. In addition, an athlete, a transgender and a centenarian have also been appointed as ambassadors.
