Mysuru: “Tipu Nija Kanasugalu” (True Dreams of Tipu) a new play authored by Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa was staged at Bhoomigeetha Auditorium in Rangayana on Sunday November 20.
As the play in the form of a book stirred the hornet’s nest ever since it was released recently, with those in favour of Tipu calling it a deliberate act to distort the history associated with erstwhile Srirangapattana ruler, the maiden show was staged amid the deployment of a strong contingent of police.
Police had been deployed at the main gate of the repertory and the main entrance to the auditorium. Only those who had tickets were allowed inside. Apart from 300 tickets sold, selected guests were invited to watch the first show. It may be mentioned that a section of youth had submitted memoranda urging both the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner to take measures to stop staging of the play.
They had expressed fears over the cause of disturbances in society due to the staging of the play, which has generated enough controversy.
