Mysuru: Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation Pushpalatha Jaganath has disclosed that the High Court of Karnataka had ordered the demolition of the historic structure, Devaraja Market.

Addressing the media, here on Saturday, June 15, she said that earlier, some of the shop owners who were running their business in the basement of the market had moved the court with regard to restructuring the top floor of the market, without demolishing the shops that were in the basement.

She said, “The court has taken their complaint into consideration and given a verdict stating that the demolition of the structure was a must as the market had totally turned old and that the structure had reached the stage of collapse.”

“When we had begun the renovation earlier, the other half of the old structure had already collapsed. The council has taken a decision to completely renovate the building amid the requests of the public to retain the structure as it was a heritage site. We had submitted a memorandum to the state government for its complete renovation. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has already visited the spot and assessed it. As the memorandum is now with the state government, we will go according to its orders”, she added.
