Mysuru: The 64th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysuru, on November 26.
The programme started with a festive mode decorating the campus with flags, buntings, Chappara and flowers. The event commenced with the hoisting of a 40-foot Kannada flag and the singing of the Kannada Naadageete ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya tanujaate’.
Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Chairperson – Academics addressed the students and wished them. The campus had turned into a mini Karnataka with everyone wearing a yellow and red combination stole (Valli), resembling the Kannada Flag.
The students, faculty members and staff paid respect to Goddess Kannada Matha by performing an arathi, which was followed by a special lunch with unique dishes of the state, prepared, planned and served by the students.
In the evening, sports and cultural programmes were organized. Traditional local games were introduced to students from other states. The students from other states and a few staff members sang Kannada songs and danced. A kabaddi match between the staff and students’ teams and a ‘Folk dance’ performance were the highlights of the celebrations.
