In a tragic incident on Sunday, three second-year nursing students from Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) lost their lives after accidentally drowning in the backwaters of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) Dam, near Meenakshipura village in Mysuru taluk.

The victims have been identified as Krishna (21) from Haveri, Prashant (21) from Anivalu village in Periyapatna, and Siddesh (22) from Santhemarahalli in Chamarajanagar.

According to police reports, the students entered the water around 1:30 PM, unaware of its depth and lacking swimming skills. Sadly, all three were unable to stay afloat.

Following the incident, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services, assisted by skilled swimmers, carried out a recovery operation and retrieved the bodies.

The remains were transported to K R Hospital in Mysuru for post-mortem examination.

A case has been officially registered at the Yelwal Police Station, and authorities are continuing their inquiry.

This heartbreaking event underscores the importance of water safety awareness, especially in areas with unregulated access to water bodies.
