Mysuru: “The inauguration of the year long centenary celebration of Former Chief Minister Devaraja Urs will be in his native Kallahalli on August 20th” said Srinivas Prasad, District In-charge and State Revenue Minister.
Speaking at a press conference in the city, he informed that after the inauguration in his village by CM Siddaramaiah, the grand function to celebrate the birth centenary and the felicitation programs will be conducted at the open air theatre in Manasagangotri, Mysuru.
“Devaraja Urs was a social reformer in his period and he was more concerned towards the backward class. His native village Kallahalli will be developed and a building will be constructed in Hunsur”, he added.
Various programs, release of a documentary on his life, books and seminars have been scheduled for the year-long celebrations from August 20th 2015 to August 19th 2016. An exhibition of rare pictures of Urs is also planned to be conducted during the centenary celebrations, said the Minister of Cooperative H S Mahadev Prasad.
To monitor and organise the centenary celebrations, a committee has already been formed which is looking after the scheduled programs. All former Chief Ministers after the Urs, MLAs, MP and well known personalities from various fields have also been invited. Family members of Urs will be present at the event.
MLA Vasu, DC C Shikha, Hunsur MLA Manjunath and officials were present at the conference.
