Mandya: A youth drowned away in river at Sarangi rivulet in KR Pete Taluk on the night of Friday December 4.

The deceased has been identified as Uday (32), the only son of Shivalinge Gowda and Jayamma , natives of Kaigonalli. It is said that Uday working as an engineer in Bengaluru was returning to his village. The Sarangi rivulet was overflowing following heavy rains inundating the bridge. As his return was in the night, Uday was stuck near the rivulet.

His relatives who came near the bridge found him trapped in water. His father in an attempt to save him jumped into the water but was unable to rescue his son. He swam back by managing to escape from death but Uday drowned. His body was fished out on Saturday. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
