Kundapur (Karnataka), Oct 6: The Kota police have successfully cracked a gold chain theft case reported from Yadadi Mathyadi village under their jurisdiction, arresting a 26-year-old man and recovering the stolen ornament.

Theft reported from Yadadi Mathyadi

The incident came to light after Basava Poojari (72), a resident of Yadadi Mathyadi, lodged a complaint stating that an 18-gram gold chain, valued at around ₹1.45 lakh, had been stolen from his residence. According to the complaint, the chain was kept inside a Godrej cupboard and was discovered missing between 7 p.m. on September 26 and 9 a.m. on September 27.

Following the report, the Kota police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the missing jewellery.

Accused arrested and gold recovered

The accused has been identified as Anand (26), son of Subrahmanya Bhovi, residing at Kamalamma House, Guddattu Ganapati Temple Road, near Shiriya Anganwadi, Shiriya Village, Brahmavar.

Acting on credible information, a police team led by PSI Praveen Kumar R, PSI Sudha Prabhu, and personnel from Kota Police Station apprehended Anand. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the theft, and the stolen gold chain was recovered from his possession.

Investigation and commendation

Police sources said the swift action and coordination between the investigating officers helped ensure a quick breakthrough in the case. The recovery of the stolen property has brought relief to the complainant, who thanked the local police for their prompt response.

The accused is being further interrogated to determine whether he is involved in other similar thefts in the region.

Police appeal for vigilance

Authorities have urged residents to take preventive measures such as securing valuables in safe locations and installing surveillance systems to deter house thefts. The Udupi district police have also reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring quick action in property-related crimes.
