Udupi: In a significant breakthrough, Udupi district police have apprehended six suspects in connection with a cow slaughter incident reported near Kunjalu Junction in Brahmavar taluk. Authorities have confirmed that one more accused is absconding, and efforts are ongoing to trace him.

Superintendent of Police Hariam Shankar informed the media that the case was handled with urgency after initial reports surfaced. Four dedicated teams, led by the Brahmavar Circle Inspector, were formed to investigate from multiple angles. Critical CCTV footage and analysis of vehicle movements proved instrumental in identifying those involved.

Those arrested include Ram (49), Prasad (21), Sandesh (35), and Rajesh (28)—all residents of Kunjalu in Brahmavar—along with Naveen (35) from Handadi village and Keshav Naik (50) from Adjila.

According to police findings, Keshav Naik reportedly handed over a 1.5-year-old cow to the others, citing an inability to care for it. The group allegedly slaughtered the animal for consumption.

The incident came to light when remains of the cow fell onto the road during transport, arousing public suspicion. This prompted a police probe that eventually unraveled the entire sequence.

Law enforcement has seized two vehicles used in the crime: a Honda Activa (KA20 EV 6377) and a Maruti Swift (KA21 M 8071).

All six are currently in police custody and will be produced in court soon. A manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining accused. SP Shankar praised his teams for their quick and professional handling of the sensitive case.
