An on-duty home guard, Akshay Kumar, was assaulted by a tourist for intervening in their inappropriate behavior at Malpe Beach, Udupi.
The incident occurred around 1 PM, while Akshay Kumar, employed by the Tourism Department, was monitoring safety at the beach. He noticed a group of 4-5 tourists engaging in improper conduct in deep waters and instructed them to return to the shore.
One individual, identified as Sagar, allegedly responded aggressively, verbally abusing and assaulting Akshay Kumar. Despite warnings of informing the Police Sub-Inspector, Sagar reportedly shoved the guard to the ground, obstructing him from performing his duty.
Bystanders and fellow home guards intervened to de-escalate the situation. Following the altercation, a complaint was filed at the Malpe police station.
Authorities are investigating the case, ensuring accountability for obstructing a public servant on duty.
