Udupi – The Udupi City Police have arrested Mohammad Asif Betageri (28), a resident of Sirsi, in connection with multiple house burglaries reported last month in Kodankur New Colony, Puttur village.

The thefts occurred on the night of July 5, when three homes were broken into. Following an FIR at the Udupi Town Police Station, police launched an investigation and tracked down Asif. During interrogation, he confessed to carrying out the burglaries with accomplices using a vehicle to gain access to the homes.

Asif admitted to stealing gold ornaments and cash, which he later disposed of in Bhatkal and Sirsi. Acting on his inputs, police recovered 95.5 grams of gold and 255 grams of silver, valued at approximately ₹8.5 lakh.

He also confessed to committing similar thefts in Sagar Town and Nyamathi police limits, and revealed involvement in additional criminal cases in Goa and Uttar Pradesh, alongside his brother Arif, and others identified as Anees, Saleem, and Shoaib.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar confirmed that Asif has been produced before court, while his accomplices remain absconding. Authorities are actively working to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
