Biryani in India is more than a dish — it is an emotion tied to tradition, family gatherings and fierce regional pride. So when a Tamil food content creator unveiled a dish called “Biryani Cheesecake”, social media predictably erupted with disbelief, curiosity and outrage in equal measure.
A fusion no one expected
The viral video was shared by Instagram creator @cookdtv, who presented a dish that visually resembles a classic cheesecake — smooth top, clean edges and all. However, the creator quickly clarified the twist: “This looks like a cheesecake, but tastes exactly like a biryani.”
Instead of the usual biscuit-and-butter base, the recipe uses biscuits mixed with fried onions, garam masala and ghee. The filling combines cream cheese and yoghurt, layered with unmistakable biryani flavours such as fried onions, green chillies, ginger-garlic paste, spices and saffron.
Once baked, the savoury cheesecake is topped with raita and more fried onions, completing the illusion.
‘The eyes say cheesecake, the tongue says biryani’
Summing up the experience, the creator quipped, “The eyes will say it is a cheesecake. The nose will say it smells like biryani. The brain will ask how this is biryani. But the tongue will say — it is so tasty, give me another piece.”
The caption accompanying the post read, “This is a savoury cheesecake with biryani flavouring. It was brilliant — we all tasted it at the office.”
Internet reacts with confusion and disbelief
Biryani lovers, however, were far from convinced. Comments ranged from polite confusion to outright rejection.
“I don’t know how I feel about this,” wrote one user.
“Do not do this to biryani,” another commented.
“What is this? I don’t understand anything,” said a third.
Several simply asked, “Why?”
Not the first biryani experiment
This is not the first time biryani fusion has set the internet buzzing. Earlier, food creator Heena Kausar Raad went viral for her matcha biryani, featuring bright green rice, followed by an even more controversial ice cream biryani created during a baking course celebration.
Love it or hate it, one thing remains clear — biryani experiments never go unnoticed, and social media will always have strong opinions when tradition meets innovation.
