Puttur: In a recent event inaugurating the annual activities of the National Service Scheme at St Philomena College, Puttur, Vice Principal Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, emphasized the importance of village development in strengthening India as a nation. He stressed that the true strength of India lies in the progress and development of its villages. Dr Radhakrishna urged NSS units to commit themselves to the cause of village development and encouraged NSS volunteers to strive towards realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of ‘village swaraj’.

Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of maintaining high morale within NSS units. He suggested that NSS volunteers could play a pivotal role in raising awareness among villagers about critical issues such as cleanliness, water conservation, health, and environmental protection. Thus they can act as catalysts for the development of the villages and the nation.

In his presidential address, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro stressed the importance of giving back to society. He highlighted how everyone has benefited from society and urged NSS units to engage in meaningful social work to repay this debt to society.

Disha rendered prayer. NSS officer Vasudeva N welcomed. Bindushri compered the programme. Leaders of the NSS units of the college, Manoj, Uma Alva, Sinchan, and Kirti K, were present on the stage. The cultural programme followed the formal inaugural programme by the NSS volunteers. NSS Officer Pushpa proposed a vote of thanks.
