Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, a police sub-inspector (PSI) posted at Bantwal Rural Police Station was found dead in what appears to be a case of suicide on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Kheerappa (55), who had been serving as the Investigation Officer at the station for the past four months. Reports suggest he died by hanging himself at his rented residence, after reportedly informing his family members about his distress.

Preliminary information indicates that personal and financial challenges may have driven him to take the extreme step.

Kheerappa had been on night duty on July 19, but failed to respond to calls from colleagues the following day. Concerned over the lack of communication, a fellow officer visited his home, where he was found hanging.

A case has been officially registered at the Bantwal Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway to understand the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The news has sent shockwaves through the department, with many expressing grief over the loss of a committed officer. Authorities are also expected to look into the mental health support system for police personnel facing high-pressure situations.
