Bantwal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a proud representative of the Ganiga community, has worked relentlessly over the past 11 years to elevate India’s global standing and build a robust nation, said MP Capt Brijesh Chowta. He was speaking at the student scholarship distribution and achievers’ felicitation event organized by the Bantwal Taluk Ganiga Seva Sangha at Sumangala Sabhavana, Panemangalore, on Sunday.

Sangha president Krishnappa Ganiga presided over the programme. During the inaugural address, MLA Rajesh Naik Ulipady expressed the state government’s commitment to supporting the modernization of traditional Ganiga occupations through mechanization.

Former minister B Ramanath Rai, who honoured outstanding students, noted that mechanized initiatives in Ganiga businesses could lead to greater employment prospects.

The event featured an insightful educational talk by Dr Durga Prasad of Nitte Engineering College.

A special moment of pride was the felicitation of international weightlifting record-holder Adarsh Bharat Ganiga from Attavara, by MP Capt Chowta.

Among those who extended greetings were Uday Kumar, trustee of Shri Venugopal Temple, Barkur; Tejpal, ex-president of Mangaluru Karavali Credit Society; current president A S Venkatesh; Nagesh Kalladka, president of Sumangala Credit Society; entrepreneurs Madhav S Maave, Ramakrishna Barkur, and Ramesh Mendon, vice-president of District Ganiga Sangha.

Local GP leaders and numerous dignitaries, including engineers, community members, and entrepreneurs, also marked their presence.

Balakrishna Serkala, secretary of the association, delivered the welcome address. Vasant P. proposed the vote of thanks, and Triveni anchored the event.
