Mangaluru: A male commuter travelling on a KSRTC bus from Mangaluru to Puttur has been detained for allegedly harassing a female college student during the journey.
The incident occurred on July 22 around 6:30 PM, when the bus neared the Mani region in Bantwal taluk. According to the student’s complaint, she had boarded the bus in Mangaluru after college. During the ride, the man seated beside her, identified as Mohammad Touheed of Mangaluru, allegedly acted inappropriately.
The student immediately confronted the accused and called her father to inform him of the situation.
When the vehicle reached the Puttur KSRTC bus terminal, the man allegedly tried to escape through the emergency window, but his attempt was foiled by the girl’s father and other passengers, who caught and restrained him.
Following this, a formal complaint was lodged, and a case has been registered at the Puttur Women’s Police Station under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
