Mangaluru: Conviction in abduction case

The Additional District and Sessions Court (FTSC-2) in Mangaluru has convicted Samir (43) for abducting a minor under false pretence.

Judge Manu K.S. sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 55,000.

Case background

Samir, a resident of Mulki, Karnataka, developed contact with the minor, who had discontinued her studies. He misrepresented personal information to convince her to leave home.

Authorities apprehended him following the investigation by Surathkal police, led by Inspector Raghu Naik and Sub-Inspector Mahesh Prasad.

Court verdict and compensation

After a full trial, Judge Manu K.S. pronounced the verdict on August 23, sentencing Samir to 20 years of imprisonment.

The court also ordered a fine of Rs 55,000 and Rs 3.45 lakh compensation to be paid to the victim through the Legal Services Authority, with part of the amount deposited as a fixed deposit in the victim’s name.
