Mangaluru: Allegations of corruption within the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) are unraveling, with Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta calling for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step down to preserve the dignity of his office. Capt Chowta’s remarks follow the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) revelation of large-scale irregularities in the allocation of MUDA properties.

The ED’s investigation uncovered that land designated for the underprivileged was illegally allocated to real estate brokers and businessmen. In its recent statement, the ED reported the seizure of 142 properties worth an estimated ₹300 crore, implicating Siddaramaiah in the misuse of power.

“Despite the evidence piling up, Siddaramaiah clings to the CM’s chair with arrogance, projecting an unblemished image while being embroiled in corruption,” Capt Chowta alleged. He urged the CM to resign and demanded the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The MP further criticized Siddaramaiah for ignoring early warnings and instead doubling down on his position. Capt Chowta pointed out that the CM had previously returned 14 illegal plots to MUDA without conditions, indirectly admitting to nepotism and misuse of authority.

The ED also alleged that Siddaramaiah allocated MUDA plots to his wife as part of a multi-crore scam. “The facade of a clean-handed leader has fallen apart. It’s time for Siddaramaiah to step down with dignity before being compelled to face legal consequences,” Capt Chowta added.

As the CBI petition reaches a crucial stage in the High Court, the MP expressed confidence that justice will prevail and reiterated his call for Siddaramaiah’s resignation.
