The Diocese of Mangaluru has called upon the faithful to observe Sunday, March 8, 2026, as a Day of Prayer for Peace, expressing concern over the escalating violence and unrest in the Middle East.

In a circular dated March 5, 2026, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha shared the appeal issued by Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), urging Catholics to unite in prayer for peace and the protection of innocent lives.

Special prayers for peace and safety

The circular highlights the growing concern over the loss of life, destruction of infrastructure and fear among people affected by conflict. It also notes that many individuals, including migrant workers from other countries, are facing uncertainty and hardship due to the ongoing tensions.

In response to this situation, the Church has invited the faithful to dedicate time in prayer for peace, reconciliation and dialogue among nations.

Rosary to be prayed daily for peace

As part of the initiative, Catholics are encouraged to pray the Holy Rosary daily from March 8 to March 14, offering their prayers specifically for peace in the world.

The Rosary prayers are intended to seek divine intervention for an end to violence and a restoration of harmony among nations and communities.

Day of fasting and prayer on March 13

The circular further encourages the faithful to observe Friday, March 13, as a day of fasting and prayer.

The fasting will be offered for the safety of all those affected by violence and conflict, asking God to grant peace and healing to communities facing suffering.

Call for unity in prayer

The Diocese has invited the faithful to seek the intercession of Our Lady, Queen of Peace, praying for reconciliation, dialogue and a just resolution to the present crisis.

Bishop Saldanha has requested parish priests to read the circular in parish churches and share the message through digital platforms, encouraging all believers to join in prayer and fasting during this period.

The faithful are urged to unite in prayer, penance and solidarity, trusting that collective prayer can help bring peace and stability to regions affected by conflict.
