Puttur: Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has assured that legal procedures will be followed in the case involving a young man who allegedly impregnated a young woman and later went missing, a matter that has sparked public debate in recent days.

Addressing media concerns, the MLA explained that a few days ago, the young man’s father contacted him, stating that the situation had unfolded and they were present at the police station with the young woman’s mother. The father had informed him that his son agreed to marry the girl, but requested a delay of two months since the boy had not yet turned 21.

Later, the girl’s mother also spoke to the MLA, confirming the same. She reportedly told him that her daughter and the boy were ready to marry once he reached the legal age.

“At that point, I said there was no need for legal proceedings if both parties had mutually agreed to the marriage. She responded in agreement,” MLA Rai clarified.

However, weeks later, the girl’s mother reached out again, expressing concern that the young man was now unwilling to go through with the marriage.

“I clearly told her that if he refuses, then the matter must proceed legally. I haven’t wronged anyone, nor do I have any personal interest in the issue,” the MLA emphasized. He added that now that a complaint has been officially registered, the case will move forward in accordance with the law.
