Mangaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun road maintenance work on the critical Nanthoor to Surathkal corridor from August 7, with the activity expected to continue until August 13.

To reduce traffic disruptions, the work is being executed in two phases—between 11 AM and 3 PM and during night hours. On the opening day, repairs focused on the stretch between KIOCL and Panambur.

The maintenance drive includes pothole filling, patchwork repairs, and drain cleaning—measures aimed at enhancing road safety and improving vehicular movement along this busy highway.

A week ago, the old Kulur bridge, once plagued with craters and broken surfaces, was restored using interlocking pavers and a fresh layer of asphalt. However, new potholes have surfaced along other parts of the route, prompting this week-long repair initiative.

Despite the efforts, concerns loom over the durability of these temporary repairs, especially with Mangaluru witnessing heavy monsoon showers. Commuters and residents hope the patchwork will hold through the rains and not deteriorate further.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while traveling during the scheduled work hours.
