In a heartbreaking event, an 18-year-old engineering student collapsed and lost his life due to a heart attack near Krishnapura Hillside in Surathkal on Monday afternoon, July 7.
The deceased, identified as Aftab, son of Asgar Ali, was enrolled in a diploma programme in electrical engineering. Reports indicate the incident took place around noon as Aftab was heading home to bathe when he suddenly collapsed.
Aftab was the only son among four siblings. His three sisters are married. His mother had died during the Covid pandemic, leaving Aftab and his father to live alone together.
Asgar Ali, who drives an auto-rickshaw for a living, had been at home with Aftab earlier in the day. The tragedy is believed to have unfolded shortly after he left for work around 1 pm.
