Bengaluru: A woman commuting on the Bengaluru metro faced molestation as she de-boarded the train during peak hours at the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda station. The accused, identified as Lokesh Achar, allegedly took advantage of the crowded platform and touched the woman inappropriately. The victim promptly raised an alarm, leading to the quick response of security personnel who managed to apprehend the accused.

Details of the Molestation Incident

The incident occurred when the woman was de-boarding her train on Platform 4 of Kempegowda Station at 9:40 AM. As she made her way to switch lines, the accused, Lokesh Achar, reportedly molested her. The victim’s immediate reaction, screaming for help, prompted the accused to flee the scene. Security officers Puttamadaiah and Diwakar acted swiftly, apprehending Achar when he reached the concourse level.

Accused’s Criminal History Unveiled

Further investigations into the accused revealed that Lokesh Achar had a previous criminal record. In April, he was booked in a theft case for stealing a woman’s phone from a BMTC bus. Despite the earlier charges, he was out on bail when the recent molestation incident occurred. The police had previously recovered 20 mobile phones and a two-wheeler from Achar’s residence.

Increased Security Measures

Following a previous molestation incident at the same station, Bengaluru Metro authorities had heightened security measures during peak hours. The swift action in this case is attributed to the efforts initiated since the previous incident, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring the safety of women commuters.

Legal Proceedings

The victim filed a formal complaint against Lokesh Achar at a local police station. The accused now faces legal consequences for his actions. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges related to ensuring the safety and security of women in public spaces, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and responsive law enforcement.
