The son of the prided celebrity of our country was a prime accuse in a cruise drug case. A 24-year-old Aryan Khan, who once was papped and made to be seated on the crown of Badshah by the media, within a second was pulled down beneath the ground.

Every sensitive and must-be covered issues were sidelined by the media only to give priority to Aryan Khan’s issue. Not because, they wanted to reveal the truth but the Mannat brought them much views and enhanced their TRP.

An year ago, with the death of Sushanth Singh Rajput, the hashtag on Nepotism trended in India, several sons and daughters of the legendary actors were accused of nepotism. But the irony is, it is the now, Taimur papping media, who had once placed all these nepo accused kid with star publicity only to forget, it was them who once branded an unknown kid into the world of glamour and popularity.

In our Indian society, a child is recognised by the good and bad a parent commits. And when they grow up, the parents are pointed out for the well and evil the child commits. Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese – American poet and a writer in his poem, ‘On Children’ quotes: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.

Unlike any other European countries, we in India from the birth carry certain family baggages. It might have been to live as per the lines drew by our family or to bear the burden of family popularity or crime. Sharukh Khan, was relieved from being a brand ambassador of the edu-based company for the drug case his son was accused of. Vidya Rani Veerappan, daughter of an infamous sandalwood smuggler late, Veerappan when joined a national party  had to say: “Judge for my work, not for my name.” Being recognised as the daughter of, ‘man of terror’ might have compelled her inner soul to say so.

Such a baggage, will either mould an individual with recognition or make him get screwed throughout his life. Social influence is one of the sources of ethics.

Robert Cialdini, a professor in Psychology hailing from US states: social influence work in the form of Reciprocity. For example, if a society treated the human good, an individual gives back the same. At the same time, if a criminal is born then it is the reflection of a bad society.

We have two important things to be understood in the context. First,  Khalil Gibran’s words which is said to the parent on their children. This has to be remembered by every member of the society;

You may give them (children) your love but not your thoughts,

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

Here it is  essential for the society to understand that, a child might come from their parents but possess their own thoughts. Secondly, working towards the formation of a restorative society, where in, an individual is not punished throughout his life for a sin committed once in lifetime.

A committee on Criminal justice, Madhav Menon Committee, also stated that India, should go for a Restorative justice system, where in criminals are brought into the main stream. All these are to show the gesture of acceptance to an individual, so that they are not alienated in the society. All in all there is need of mentally modern society, which at the end of all, accepts the criminal to be a member of society and aims for  his/ her betterment instead of a society which prevents from making the parents carry the baggage of their kids and vice versa.
