Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police busted a supply network providing fake marks cards of country’s various open universities, targeting the unemployed.
They arrested a woman, who is the kingpin behind the racket on July 20. The buyers not only lost money but ended in legal battles after entering into fraudulent deals with a woman and her accomplices.
Police sources said that five persons, including a resident of Belagavi named Basavaraju and Arsikere-based Kishan, were involved in the fake marks card supply racket apart from the kingpin Yashaswini.
Yashaswini, a BBM graduate from K R Pet in Mandya district started a tutorial to eke a living. She later divorced her husband and started the Yashu Education Institute in Saraswatipuram, two years ago. She began teaching failed SSLC and PUC students and gradually came in contact with Basavaraju and Kishan, who became her accomplices in the fake marks card supply business later.
The team used to target young, innocent students and unemployed youth and lure them by assuring them of an agreement with Karnataka State Open University (KSOU).
They used to charge around Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 each from the students and have cheated more than 50 people so far.
The CCB police, who learnt of the network, arrested the woman involved, when she was sitting near the Taluk Office gate in Nazarbad on July 20. Police seized fake marks card scoreboards of different universities.
Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the rest involved in the racket.
