Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spear Head Media Group to achieve this milestone.
One of the programme under Thank You Karnataka series is Walk the Special Path, a show promoting sensitivity, awareness and most importantly, social inclusion of disabled children, which is aired on Monday.
The guest of the fourth episode held on Monday October 17 is Dr. Sharan Sargod, Pedodontist, Yenepoya Dental Hospital, Mangaluru. The anchor person for the programme is Meena Noronha.
The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s YouTube Channel.
“Oral health is the gateway for general health. In case of specially-abled children they may have issues in maintaining oral or general hygiene and this will make them more prone to diseases compared to others,” said Dr. Sharan Sargod.
Stating prevention is the key to all diseases, doctor advised to visit the dentist once in every six months. He also gave tips on ways to maintain oral hygiene.
“Parents should have a conversation with the doctor they choose to treat the oral health of their specially-abled child as it will make the process easy for both doctor as well as child,” he stressed.
“Health care for each special child differs. The oral health care might initially go slow but with determination and efforts a positive outcome is witnessed,” he said.
