Bengaluru: Senior actress, Jayanti (76) who is called as Abhinaya Sharade passed away today morning. She is survived by her son.
For last few months, she was under treatment for age related ailment.
Jayanti ruled the Sandalwood in 1960s, 1970s and early years of 1980s. She acted in over 500 films including Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi languages.
She had won seven state film awards, including four best actress awards.
Her first Kannada film was Jenu Gudu released in the year 1963. K. S. Ashwath and Uday Kumar acted in this film along with Jayanti. Her last Kannada film was Namitha I Love You which was released in the year 2011.
She is best known for her roles in Chandavalliya Thota, Bettada Huli, Miss Lilavathi, Rajadurgada Rahasya, Edakallu Guddada Mele, Sri Krishna Devaraya, Masanada Huvu etc. She acted with Dr. Raj Kumar in 30 films.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa condoled her death.
