5th Test Glory: India Seals Win Over England by an Innings, 64 Runs

At the close of the second day of the fifth Test here on Friday, India was 473 for eight in their first innings despite repeated blows from England bowlers under the leadership of Shoaib Bashir in the third session.

Off-spinner Bashir (4/170) and left-arm spinner Tom Hartley (2/126) scythed through India’s middle-late order, but the hosts found some late resistance from Kuldeep Yadav (27 batting) and Jasprit Bumrah (19 batting) to stretch the lead to 255 runs.

Prior to then, India’s batsmen had a wild ride, batting England into submission with hundreds from Rohit Sharma (103), Shubman Gill (110) and debutant Devdutt Padikkal (65). Ben Stokes, England’s captain, bowled for the first time since the Ashes, which was the one bright spot for the team.

In order to make the event unforgettable, Stokes also got rid of Rohit, his opposite number.
