Nagesh Trophy: Day 3 witnesses Gujarat score 300+ in one innings

Kochi / Chandigarh: Runs galore in Chandigarh (Group D) as Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat registered wins on Wednesday while Uttar Pradesh, Odisha secured victories in Kochi (Group C) here in the ongoing 6th edition of IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy – Men’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2023-24.

The Kochi and Chandigarh-leg started simultaneously on Monday with Odisha, Jharkhand, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar in Group C and Gujarat, Chandigarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana in Group D competing respectively.

In Chandigarh, Gujarat showcased dominance by defeating Telangana with a convincing 158-run victory. Gujarat posted an impressive 313/2 in 20 overs, with Dinesh Rathva (142) and Naresh Tumda (144) both delivering sensational centuries. Telangana managed to score 155/4 in response. Rathva, not only with the bat but also contributing with the ball, earned the Player of The Match title.

Meanwhile, in another Group D clash, Madhya Pradesh displayed their prowess by thrashing West Bengal by a staggering 171 runs. Madhya Pradesh set a formidable total of 280/3 in 20 overs, courtesy of Rampal Uike’s (114) and Ajay Sidam’s (125) remarkable centuries. West Bengal struggled to reach 109/9 in their innings. The dominating performance by Madhya Pradesh showcased their strong form in the tournament.

In Kochi, Group C saw Odisha securing a four-wicket victory over Bihar. Batting first, Bihar was bundled out for 90/10 in under 15 overs, and Odisha successfully chased down the target in 55 balls. Lingaraj Rautara, who picked up two wickets, was named the Player of the Match for his impactful contribution.

The second match in Kochi witnessed Uttar Pradesh overcoming Kerala with a four-wicket win. Kerala posted 140/6 in 20 overs, but Uttar Pradesh successfully chased down the target with five balls to spare. Chandan Kumar’s gritty fifty earned him the Player of The Match accolade.

Jammu & Kashmir (Group E) and Karnataka (Group B) currently tops their respective Groups. In Group C, Kerala, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar will lock horns with each other on Thursday while in Group D Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Gujarat will meet on the same day.

The ongoing 6th edition of Nagesh Trophy began on November 23 with the four teams of Group E battling out at the University of Jammu. The tournament will run till February 02, 2024 and the League stage will be played till December 29, 2023.

Nagesh Trophy was launched in the memory of Late Shri SP Nagesh, Founder President, Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Founder Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The launch of the tournament brought together the entire blind cricket community into one huge platform, by creating a milestone in the blind cricket history.
