Jasprit Bumrah ascends to Career-Best Top Spot in ICC Test Bowlers Rankings. Following a remarkable performance in the second Test against England in Vizag, Jasprit Bumrah has soared to the number one spot in the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers for the first time in his career, surpassing his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. This makes him the fourth Indian cricketer in history to achieve this feat.

Bumrah showcased his prowess by claiming nine wickets in the match, including a remarkable 6/45 in England’s first innings. His overall match figures of 9/91 were instrumental in India’s victory, marking his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Notably, Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 150 Test wickets and also registered the best bowling figures (6/45) by an Indian pacer in a home Test match since 2000.

Setting a new record, Bumrah became the first bowler ever to take nine wickets in India-England Tests in both countries. His stellar performance in the 2021 Nottingham Test, where he claimed figures of 9/110, further solidified his standing as one of the premier fast bowlers in the world.

In terms of numbers, Bumrah leads the charts as the leading wicket-taker in 2024 Tests, boasting 155 scalps from 34 matches at an impressive average of 20.19. His dominance is particularly evident against England, against whom he has claimed 56 wickets at an average of 20.87 in nine matches, including his third five-wicket haul.

With Bumrah’s ascent to the top, Ashwin drops to third place in the rankings, as Bumrah now holds 881 rating points compared to Ashwin’s 841. Bumrah’s exceptional form this year, where he has already claimed 23 wickets, has been a driving force behind his rise.

Notably, Bumrah’s achievement as the first Indian pacer to top the ICC Test Bowling Rankings adds another feather to his cap, joining the elite company of Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Bedi as the only Indians to have achieved this milestone.

In batting rankings, India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal has also made significant strides, climbing 37 places to 29th position after his remarkable innings of 209. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson leads the batting rankings with 864 points, followed by Steve Smith and Joe Root.
