Karnataka may soon get a place among those with a large number of tourists, all thanks to the many tourist destinations that attract people from all over the world to Bangalore, bringing the recent number up by a whopping one crore.
While there are a number of factors contributing to this, one of them is the state government’s recent scheme to make traveling on a bus free for women.
The last year saw 28.45 people traveling to Karnataka, which is a huge climb from a mere 18.27 crore in the previous year. In fact, data from the state tourism department records this as the highest number of tourists in the state so far in the past seven years.
Besides the free travel for women, a lot of officials connect this surge to what they term as a form of revenge tourism, post covid. Tourists, who have been forced to sit at home all along, finally try to make up for all that lost time.
Added to that is the fact that the state tourism department has been doing its best to popularize tourism with its many initiatives throughout the state, with water sports and various other adventurous activities coming up in different areas.
All this has led to an increase of about 10 to 15 percent in the tourism business today when we compare it to that of the Covid times, and we hope the situation is here to stay, which is likely as the pandemic has sure got a lot of people more enthusiastic about traveling these days.
Bookings happen almost every other weekend with people coming here on short trips and a greater number of them rushing here on longer weekends.
This gives the state little time to focus on attracting more international travelers, with the total number of tourists now making up for only 0.14 percent of them, which is very unlike tourists destinations in India like Kerala and Goa, which the state hopes to be like someday.
