RCB comfortably chased down the target of 114 runs set by DC to claim their first-ever WPL title. A stellar performance in the first innings by RCB’s spin bowlers set the stage for their triumph.
Sophie Molinuex and Shreyanka Patil showcased exceptional spin bowling skills, turning the game in RCB’s favor. Despite DC’s strong start at 64 for no loss, Molinuex’s brilliant over changed the course of the game, taking three crucial wickets including those of Shafali Varma, Jemmimah Rodrigues, and Alice Capsey. Supported by Shreyanka’s four-wicket haul, RCB restricted DC to a mere 113 runs.
In the chase, Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry played pivotal roles, guiding RCB to a comfortable victory in New Delhi.
Shreyanka’s outstanding performance earned her the Purple Cap with 13 wickets in eight matches, while Perry secured the Orange Cap, outperforming Meg Lanning.
In the final showdown, DC, led by Lanning, won the toss and chose to bat first. Lanning and Shafali provided a strong start for DC, with Shafali displaying aggressive batting. However, Molinuex’s crucial over halted DC’s momentum, leading to a collapse of their batting lineup.
Shreyanka further dismantled DC’s batting order, leaving them struggling at 113 runs. RCB’s chase was steady, with Mandhana and Devine laying a strong foundation. Despite some tense moments, Perry and Richa Ghosh ensured RCB’s victory with eight wickets and three balls to spare.
