In a historic achievement, a four-year-old girl named Zara from the Czech Republic has set a new record as the youngest person to reach Mount Everest’s base camp. Covering a challenging 170-mile journey, Zara, accompanied by her father David Sifra, and seven-year-old brother, reached the base camp at an elevation of 17,598 feet. This accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo, who achieved the feat at the age of 5 in 2023.

Facing extreme conditions with temperatures dropping to -25 degrees Celsius, the family’s expedition emphasized careful acclimatization, continuous monitoring of blood oxygen saturation, and a gradual ascent. Zara’s father highlighted her remarkable physical condition, attributing her success to her unusual upbringing in Malaysia. Growing up, Zara walked 5-10 kilometers daily with elevation gains of 300-600 meters, accumulating over 2,200 kilometers in the jungle in 2023.

The family’s Instagram account, managed under Zara’s brother’s name, confirmed the success of the expedition, sharing breathtaking images of their epic adventure. Despite the challenges, Zara’s resilience stood out, and her father noted that her unique habits, like bathing in ice, contributed to her ability to handle the cold.

Mr. Sifra pondered on how a four-year-old could physically and mentally manage such a challenging hike, attributing it to Zara’s exceptional physical condition and her upbringing. Zara, a citizen of the Czech Republic and Canada, currently resides in Malaysia with her multilingual abilities in Czech, Chinese, and English. The family is currently on their weeks-long return from the Everest base camp.
