An Australian woman faced the ultimate nightmare familiar to many employed individuals as she boarded a flight after calling in sick to work, only to discover her supervisor on the same plane.
Leila Soares shared her awkward predicament in a TikTok video that quickly went viral, amassing over 11 million views. In the video, Soares confessed to having feigned illness and taken a day off from work. To her astonishment, she encountered her boss on the flight later that day, sparking concerns that her little white lie might land her in trouble.
In the video captioned, “Messaged my boss to call in sick only to find he on the same flight,” Soares documented the moment of realization. The footage shows passengers disembarking from the JetStar flight, with a zoom-in on a man assumed to be Soares’s manager. She then turns the camera towards herself, attempting to conceal her identity with a face mask, sunglasses, and a cap.

Soares explained in the comments that her boss likely didn’t notice her because he boarded from the front, entering through the front door, while she was seated towards the back and entered through the rear door. However, the video does not provide an update on whether she was ultimately spotted.
The comments section was filled with relatable anecdotes from other users sharing similar experiences. One user recounted, “Happened to me; I called in sick and went shopping. At the checkout, there she is right behind me and said, ‘What are you buying?’ I froze.” Another shared, “I called in sick one time and went to the casino and saw my boss waving at me by the roulette machines.”
