Patna: The visuals of a Dalit woman being beaten by a cop in public in Bihar‘s Sitamarhi have sparked concerns over police brutality and ignited public demands for action. However, the police assert that the cop was attempting to maintain order after a fight broke out between two parties in a kidnapping case.

Inspector Rajkishore Singh, in charge of Surasand police station, was captured on video thrashing the woman on the street with a stick, striking her multiple times in the Surasand market amid an angry crowd.

The incident occurred while the cop was in uniform, triggering outrage among the public. In response to the incident, Sitamarhi Police released a statement indicating that a probe has been ordered into the matter.

According to Vinod Kumar, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the incident is connected to the kidnapping of a girl. He stated in a video statement that the girl was rescued, but the two sides involved in the case visited the police station and engaged in a fight outside. This led to a traffic jam on the road, prompting the cop to use his baton to disperse the crowd.
