Udupi: Travelers heading from Katapady to Kundapur via NH 66 are facing severe traffic delays and safety hazards due to large potholes near the under-construction Ambalpady flyover.
A particularly dangerous crater on the service road is posing a major threat to motorists. The Ambalpady junction, a vital point along the highway, is undergoing flyover construction aimed at reducing congestion in Udupi city. Although work on the flyover has picked up speed, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seems to have overlooked the maintenance of the parallel service road.
This stretch sees thousands of vehicles daily, including heavy commercial trucks. The pothole, which spans almost the entire width of the service road, is endangering cars, bikes, and lorries alike.
With parts of the main road cordoned off due to ongoing construction, all traffic from Mangaluru and Ambalpady is being diverted onto the narrow service road, causing significant bottlenecks.
On Wednesday, July 30, Udupi traffic police personnel made a temporary attempt to fill the pothole, offering minor relief to commuters. However, the issue remains unresolved and continues to threaten road safety.
Frustrated travelers have appealed to NHAI for immediate intervention and permanent repair. Locals insist that quick action is crucial to prevent accidents and restore smooth traffic flow.
