Udupi: Despite the recent infrastructural improvements at Innanje railway station in Kaup taluk, residents remain frustrated due to the poor road access leading to the facility.
Currently, the station is serviced by the Mangaluru–Madgaon passenger train and DEMU train, making it a convenient stop for many daily commuters from across Kaup taluk. Passengers can obtain tickets shortly before the trains arrive, and the station has become increasingly useful for the local population.
The station now features a 600-meter platform, a 1.2-kilometer loop line, a waiting hall, clean toilets, a ticket counter, a station master’s office, and access to drinking water. However, these upgrades have been overshadowed by one glaring issue — the approach road remains in a dilapidated condition.
Locals have long been advocating for better infrastructure, especially for the approach road, but their calls seem to have gone unheard. Many express their disappointment, stating that while the station itself now meets several modern standards, reaching it remains a daily struggle.
Public dissatisfaction is growing, with residents arguing that road connectivity should have been addressed alongside the station’s upgrade. Without proper access, they fear the full potential of the railway station will remain unrealized.
The community is now urging authorities to prioritize and expedite the construction of a proper access road to match the station’s improved standards.
