After concluding his visit to Qatar on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that it has given the bilateral friendship “new vigour” and emphasized that India looks forward to stepping up cooperation with the Gulf state in important areas like trade, investment, technology, and culture.
The visit by PM Modi was noteworthy because it took place just one week after eight Indian nationals who had been detained and sentenced to death in Qatar were freed.

PM Modi held extensive discussions with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, during his brief visit—his second since 2014—with the main goal of greatly enhancing India-Qatar relations in the areas of trade, energy, investment, and new technology.

The friendship between India and Qatar has gained new impetus as a result of my visit. India is eager to increase collaboration in important areas such as trade, investment, technology, and culture. Along with a 1:24-minute video summing up his activities in the Gulf nation, Prime Minister Modi shared on his official X handle, “I thank the Government and people of Qatar for their hospitality.”

“Had a wonderful meeting with HH Sheikh @TamimBinHamad. We reviewed the full range of India-Qatar relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors. Our nations also look forward to collaborating in futuristic sectors which will benefit our planet,” he posted on X along with the photos of the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also had a meeting with Father Amir, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, in Doha. The Prime Minister commended Father Amir for his inspirational leadership in clearing the path for Qatar’s growth over the previous few decades. The subject of India-Qatar relations was discussed by the two leaders, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. As Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra informed reporters, the prime minister also extended an invitation to Emir Hamad Al-Thani to visit India.

After a fast-paced tour of the United Arab Emirates, Modi arrived in Doha late on Wednesday. Among his many engagements there were speeches at the prestigious World Governments Summit, an event attended by a large number of Indian community members, and the opening of the country’s first Hindu stone temple.
