Hong Kong: Authorities in Hong Kong reported that a ground worker was killed on Tuesday when he was struck by a towed aircraft. This was an uncommon occurrence that led to an arrest for reckless driving.
According to police, the unidentified victim, a 34-year-old national of Jordan who works in Hong Kong, is thought to have been riding in the passenger seat of a tow truck when he fell out of the vehicle and was struck by the plane that was being towed behind it.
In the early hours of Tuesday, the man was discovered by emergency personnel lying on a taxiway with multiple serious injuries, according to a statement from the force.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Hong Kong’s airport authority said the man was an employee at ground support and maintenance firm China Aircraft Services.
“It is suspected that the seat belt was left unfastened while the staff was working on the (vehicle),” the authority said.
The 60-year-old driver of the car was detained, according to the police, on suspicion of reckless driving that resulted in death.
The police added that he has been detained while the investigation is ongoing.
An AFP request for comment was not immediately answered by China Aircraft Services.
